The Samsung B2230HD represents a growing segment of monitors which can be called a hybrid between computer monitors and the LCD TV. This supports the growing trend that more people are mixing work and play together and there are some people (like me) that don’t even watch TV anymore.
Rather, we watch our high definition content whether it be Blue Ray, recorded cable, Internet TV, etc in the same area as our workspace. That said, if you don’t require things like HDMI, USB port, etc, then I recommend you go for the cheaper alternative – Samsung B2230.

As far as monitors go, the Samsung B2230 (not to be confused with the Samsung B2230HD) is a pretty good buy. Depending on where you get it, the price could be 40-50% off especially during the holiday season where bargain are aplenty. This is probably the best feature going for it, and it also meets all the needs of the casual user. In fact, at a price of around $130 (discounted), it would be tempting to buy two monitors and set them in dual configuration.

Samsung B2230 Features
Like many other Samsung models, this monitor comes with the Magic Eco feature that allows you to quickly adjust the brightness level to 100%, 75%, 50% with a few button presses. Why Eco? Because a lower level of brightness reduces the energy usage of the monitor. The factory default brightness is probably just a bit too bright and most like you will need to lower the level a bit anyway as well as adjust the contrast level so that your colours come out better for video.
The design of the monitor is typical of most monitors and nothing to shout about with Samsung going for a plain, black glossy look that looks simple and elegant. As long as you don’t touch it (it’s a fingerprint magnet), you should be fine. While glossy means it gets dirty fairly easy, it also means it is relatively easy to clean with just a wipe of a clean cloth.
Another feature worthy of note is that it is pure HD at 1080p which means that all your widescreen videos will play without any black lines padding the top and bottom.
Caution! Before You Buy The Samsung B2230
This model ONLY supports being used on a computer because it only has DVI and VGA ports (hence the difference in price). If you want to use this as a TV as well, then you should read about the Samsung B2230HD.
Conclusion and Thoughts
I think this is by far the cheapest monitor that I have reviewed. This is probably one of the reasons why it is so popular on Amazon. If you have the budget, I would recommend that you just get two so that you can set up a dual monitor configuration (if your computer supports it and you have the desk space). Many people appreciate the extra screen real estate a dual configuration has to offer. If you don’t have specific needs (like graphic design, etc) and just use the monitor for work and the occasional movie, then I’d say the Samsung B2230 is great value for money.

The Samsung PX2370 is a very popular monitor among consumers. In this review, I will cover some of the top features and pros and cons of the monitor based on customer feedback.
Samsung PX2370 Overview
The 23-inch PX2370 is the successor to the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 which also happens to be a very popular model. Compared to the XL2370, this monitor is designed with a more angular look and has sharper corners and edges. Overall, the Samsung PX2370 also has a slimmer profile compared to the its previous iteration.
As with many of the newer monitors nowadays, this monitor also has a 16:9 aspect ratio and can display movies and videos in Full HD. Aside from that, here are some of the top features of the monitor at a glance:

- intensity sensor that automatically adjusts brightness levels by detecting the ambient light around the monitor

Picture Quality
As with all monitor purchases, one of the most important things that determines whether a monitor is worth the asking price is the picture quality. The Samsung PX2370 not only meets expectations in this regard, but even exceeds most customers expectation. It is common knowledge that monitors made from IPS panels are superior to TN panels when it comes to picture quality. However, while the PX2370 is made from a TN panel, I’m quite shocked that one customer said it was even better than another Dell model he used which was and IPS panel.
I wasn’t thoroughly convinced though, so I checked out other user reviews. It turns out that many other users have good things to say about the picture quality of this monitor. One gamer noted that he could not discern any difference in lag compared to his CRT monitor. For those who spend a lot of time in front of the computer, this monitor also doesn’t strain your eyes as much even though the refresh rate doesn’t go up to 120hz.
TN panels do have their limitations though which comes in the form of poorer vertical viewing angles compared to IPS panels. Samsung knows this as well so they came up with a workaround in the form of Magic Angle. Using this feature, the brightness and contrast is adjusted to make the screen more viewable at extreme angles. For all intents and purposes it does serve its function, however some might say that it should not be needed in the first place if they had used a superior panel.
Samsung PX2370 Special Features
One unique feature of this monitor is the ambient light sensor that comes with it called Magic Lux. Basically what it does is automatically adjust the brightness of your monitor based on the ambient light based on your settings. I have not seen this feature on any other monitor and usually is only used in laptops. But more importantly, it works! When you couple that with Magic Eco, another feature that allows you to save energy based on 4 preset that you can choose from, you get a really energy efficient monitor that only uses a meager 12W on average.
Reported Issues From Users
Many have complained of wobbling issues which is possibly due to the lightness of the monitor. The stand is relatively sturdy with rubber pads at the bottom, however if you knock the table or have speakers with a strong bass placed on the table then you will probably experience wobbling.
Another thing is that the monitor only allows you to adjust the tilt. Most are ok with this because that is the norm, but it should be noted that there are several monitors like the Benq V2410T and Samsung BX2240 that do have height adjustment available.
Conclusion
While the Samsung PX2370 can still be considered cheap at less than $300, some may say that it is not worth it as there are cheaper alternatives. It really is down to what you value in your monitor. If you are wanting to save energy and space, then I think this monitor should definitely be on your shortlist. However, those are not important to you, you might want to consider something like the Samsung F2380M which has better image and build quality and cheaper to boot.
